I had an interesting thought today,
I was wondering what it is that would make me buy a sound system. (being in the industry makes it difficult to choose)
For many people sound is a personal thing, this is easy to proof, since many people wont be able to tell you exactly what sound components they have in their homes, but they will be able to tell you exactly what music they like.
If you are a sound enthusiast, you could easily fall into the trap of becoming obsessed with specific sound equipment and/or a specific brand. We all want to sell or get sold what we like, but if we have not listened to all the amplifiers and speakers out there, how do we know what it is that we like so much?
Except from the fact that your budget, room size and decor plays a role, consider the following:
Try to be completely unbiased and listen to the musicality of the song played. If you get that happy feeling and you find yourself singing along to the music, you have a winner.
How do you get emotionally involved in a piece of electronic equipment? It is not what it looks like or even the features it has. It all comes down to the performance.
Is the artist singing the song to you in your living room or theatre? Is the sense of realism so overwhelming that you get goosies all over. (This is starting to sound like a Danielle Steel novel).
To cut it short, if the answer is yes you found your system. Don't listen with a pre-conceived idea, because of the reviews you read on the Internet or magazines, make your own opinion. Tell the sales person to leave the sales pitch at home and give you a demo with your favourite music and then look at your budget. you might even convince yourself to spend the extra cash and be happy for years to come.
Hope this tip helps, let me know about more questions regarding buying a new sound system.
